Last weekend I attended the Home-Work Textile Masterclass with special guest host Evie Kemp. Not only did I get to fan girl it up and meet one of my favourite New Zealand designers (aka Evie), I also had the pleasure of hanging out with some absolutely lovely and very clever creative ladies, which as a Mum of 3 young girls is a rare and special thing indeed.
We went old school in the workshop creating our own custom colour palettes, did a little still life drawing and doodling and then turned our fun little sketches into a hand made tile block. We also got to pick Jess and Evie's brains about the good, the bad and the beautiful side of having a textile design business. It was a brilliant day out and my only regret is that I didn't make it a double header by signing up for Jess's screen printing class the day before. Needless to say, if the lovely Jess from Home-Work rolls back into town again to host a screen-printing workshop, I'll be there with bells on.
The completed repeat tile block.
A photocopied example of the repeating tile block in action. This is always like magic to me, I love it!
A few days after the workshop I digitized my original tile block on the iPad, adding colour and texture.
